Kopenhagen Fur opened Copenhagen Fashion Week

During Wednesday's February 2nd opening show of Kopenhagen Fur it ws obvious that fur become an important part of Copenhagen Fashion Week and fashion in general.

The fashion week set off with great success on February 2nd, when Kopenhagen Fur  - as one the main sponsors for the Copenhagen Fashion Week - had the pleasure of welcoming the audience at the Copenhagen City Hall.

To demonstrate that Danish fur is leading in international fur fashion, Kopenhagen Fur had invited nine designers from six different countries, who individually showed the potential of fur.

Designer Lars Wallin from Sweden has enjoyed working with Danish fur for his new collection, which is produced by the furriers at Kopenhagen Studio.

Weel-known personalities at the show

Among the large amount of guests, there were several well-known personalities. Kopenhagen Fur's international engagement has aroused the interest of Danish politicians, among them party leader of Radikale Venestre, Margrethe Vestager and Eva Kjer Hansen, MP for Venestre participated in the show.

Margrethe Vestager was very enthusiastic by the show: "It was very inspiring. I was especially impressed by, how the designers managed to use fur in their men's collections. Fur has a lot of potential, she said.

Furthermor, Margrethe Vestager said that Kopenhagen Fur is a pioneer for the Danish export market because of the company's long-term effort in China, where it has branded Denmarl postively.

Several Danish celebrities were attending the show as guest as well, among them international fashion expert Uffe Buchard and actor Iben Hjejle, who was been Kopenhagen Fur's public fashion image lately. She was very impressed by the show as well - "It was amazing! It is almost art. It was very inspiring and I can tell that fur is no longer reserved for American pimps".

Fashion Weeks

It's been very quiet lately, but that's definitely not unusual for the month of August. Nearly everyone is on vacation, resting up for the hectic month of September when models begin to descend en mass upon the cities of New York, London, Milan and Paris for the Spring/Summer 2011 runway season.

To get you excited (and prepared), you can browse the schedule for New York here. Those are just the designers showing at the tents (at Lincoln Center!!). Lots of designers are showing off-site so don't fret if you don't see Alexander, Marc, Jack or Lazaro on the list. Here's hoping Freja continues on with her amazing streak from last season. Any shows you're particularly excited to see her walk? Hoping to see her walk? Will be shocked if she walks? I'm excited for Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs and Narciso Rodriquez. I just love Alex always, and Marc and Narciso are the only two shows that Freja has never missed walking for since her debut. Talk about amazing streaks....those two can't end!

Even though it's been a quiet August, there's always a fashion week going on somewhere in the world. And this time it's happening in Freja's home country. Copenhagen Fashion Week starts today and lasts until Sunday. Freja won't be walking, but that's no excuse to miss out if you love fashion and models. After all, it's where Freja got her start before landing internationally on the Prada runway. And it's where we'll most likely see new talent trying to make their marks before the September shows begin. Caroline Brasch Nielsen had a good debut last season at CPH before breaking out in Paris, and subsequently making it on to many top ten newcomer lists. If you're a model watcher than I would definitely keep your eyes peeled. Those Danes are always quite lovely and perfectly in line with the modeling zeitgeist.

Maybe August won't be so quiet after all. :)

Bits and Bytes

Things are ratcheting up as we get closer to the SS10 shows. Only 1 month away! Are you excited?

Freja dusted off her runway walk for Copenhagen Fashion Week last Thursday. She opened and closed the Mads Norgaard show.

Hopefully this means we'll see a "Copenhagen Experience #3" very soon. The fashion film series by Mads Norgaard was supposed to be a trilogy. We saw films #1 and #2 a long time ago but #3 has yet to surface. So I'm going to take Freja opening and closing for Mads as a good sign of things to come.

FTV also just released a new "Models" segment for Freja containing footage from the FW0910 shows.

These types of videos are some of my favorite things about fashion weeks. I just love seeing footage of models backstage during prep. I know it's slightly voyeuristic, but it's really the only chance we get to see our favorite girls in motion off the runway.

That's it for now. As the summer winds down I think we'll start seeing Freja more and more. Don't we have a few eds to look forward to?

Where It All Started

It's no secret that Freja absolutely loves her home country of Denmark. Her ties there run very deep as most, if not all, of her family and friends live there. I think Freja still lives there as well. It's quite rare for a top working model not to live in either New York or Paris. In fact, the only other model I can think of who doesn't live in either of those two cities is Lakshmi Menon, and that's only because I just saw her Vogue editorial that was shot in her hometown of Goa, India.

I've never been to Denmark, but it seems like a great progressive place to live, albeit a little too cold for my tastes. Did you know that it was the first country in the world to legalize pornography and grant same-sex couples nearly all the rights of marriage? Denmark also ranks very high in income equality amongst its citizens. It is one of the most peaceful countries in the world, and its people are some of the happiest in the world based on health, welfare and education. And if you weren't already super jealous of the Danes, their country is also one of the least corrupt.

Denmark's capital of Copenhagen also has a very vibrant and budding fashion scene, complete with its own fashion week. The average person might not know that Copenhagen fashion week exists, but fashion insiders definitely do. Furthermore, this is the city where Freja's fashion career started. She was scouted on the streets by Denmark's biggest agency Unique, and the rest as they say, is history. In a nod to Cph Fashion Week and Denmark, I'm posting some old backstage and runway pictures that I came across from the website of photographer Michael Hermansen. I believe these are all from the SS07 season.

It's always nice to see some of Freja's older work, isn't it? I hope she finds the time to walk in Cph Fashion Week again. And maybe we'll finally get that third installment of The Copenhagen Experience from Mads Nørgaard? If I keep saying it enough, maybe it will happen just like the Chanel campaign.
